Video Series, Part I

What are we doing? Ringing in the New Year in style, of course! The video below was filmed at the local youth hostel where we were staying as we wrap up various meetings in Nairobi. Tomorrow, we meet with Kenneth Owade, a fellow project manager for Cross World Africa and director of the Kibera YMCA. For those of you unfamiliar with Kibera, this informal settlement is the largest slum in Africa, and the third largest slum in the world. Kenneth will give us a tour of through several of the villages in this urban slum. He will explain to us how the YMCA gives back to the youth of the community and how it empowers it's inhabitants to break free from poverty. Stay tuned for another video! Afterwards, Kevin, Andrew, and I take off for Iten, Kenya- my home away from home for the next 3.5 months.

Alyssa starts her journey and the Ruby in the Rift project in Nairobi, Kenya with a short stay at the YMCA Central.
